Co-host wanted!

I'd like to put this podcast out more frequently, but I can't do that on my own. It requires too much time I don't have. I enjoy the process, so it doesn't feel like work, but it does take plenty of time to generate the good content we want to have on the Wow! Signal.

I also want more than my voice and views involved, and I would like the guest segments to be more of a roundtable than a two-way conversation.

What I really need, is one more co-host/co-producer who is willing to commit some time and energy into making the Wow! Signal podcast both better and more frequent - someone who can commit to taking the lead on producing several hours of good content per year.

Here is an idea of the work involved, which would be split roughly evenly between all hosts:
  • Deciding on episode topics, researching them and determining who would be the best guest(s) to come on the show and discuss those topics
  • Reading articles, books or papers the guest has written for the purpose of asking smart questions.
  • Collecting and combining questions from team members and the online community.
  • Approaching potential guests and scheduling interviews
  • Conducting or co-conducting recorded interviews
  • Writing the scripted portions of the podcast (although we're using less scripting these days).
  • Recording the scripted and unscripted portions of the podcast.
  • Helping to select music and obtaining music permissions
  • Editing the whole thing together, and possibly post-production work.
  • Writing show notes.
  • Promoting each podcast episode on social media.
  • Engaging listeners on social media.

Here is what you will need:
  • An informed, scientific, skeptical and open-minded worldview.  Read my blog to get an idea of what I mean by this.
  • A keen interest in the topics we cover on the podcast and in talking about them.
  • Some computer skills, preferably with a Digital Audio Workstation, although you can pick up audio editing as you go.
  • The ability to write reasonably well and speak clearly in English.
  • A computer, a Skype account, a decent microphone with a pop filter (we have supplied microphones for team members before, so that's negotiable), a pair of headphones, and a broadband internet connection.
  • A tolerance (or better yet, preference) for music you'll never hear on the radio.
  • Willingness to approach perfect strangers to ask them to be on the podcast.
  • A few hours a month.
Otherwise, you can be young, old, any nationality, and any gender. It would be more convenient if you lived in the Eastern (GMT - 5) time zone, but we can work around that if you don't. Of course, you would get full credit for your work and ideas. If you are interested in this non-paying job, please contact me at wowsignalpodcast (at) gmail (dot com), and tell me about yourself, including books you've read recently and point me to something you've written or presented. If you've done a podcast or other audio production before, that's a plus, and I would like to hear some of it.

I expect this process to take some time.

  1. Can I try a test episode thing? My ONLY lack in your list I would say is the informed part worldview, but that can change. I've been meaning to listen to your podcast for a while now, but haven't had the time.
